20-gallon quiet compressor
Both are oil-free, quiet-series 20-gallon compressors, so they are tolerable in an attached garage. Pick on the sale, the warranty path and the noise rating you can live with.
Machine class fit sheet
A 20 gallon compressor (our planning allowance) measures 28 x 20 in (2.3 x 1.7 ft), runs on 120V at 15 A. It fits with operator room in 6 of our 6 garage sizes, the smallest being the 12x20 one-car, and it fits with a sedan parked inside from the 12x22 one-car up.
| Garage | Alone, operator room | Car parked, working | Car parked, stored | Share of floor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One-car, 12 x 20 | yes | no | no | 2% |
| One-car, 12 x 22 | yes | yes | yes | 1% |
| Two-car, 20 x 20 | yes | yes | yes | 1% |
| Two-car, 22 x 22 | yes | yes | yes | 1% |
| Two-car, 24 x 24 | yes | yes | yes | 1% |
| Three-car, 32 x 24 | yes | yes | yes | 1% |
"Operator room" keeps 12 in clear around the machine, and "stored" drops that zone, for a machine you roll out only when the car is gone. Both leave a 24 in apron in front of the overhead door and a 30 in walk-around beside any parked sedan. In a 12 x 20 ft garage with a car inside, this machine has to be stored elsewhere.
Same job, two ways to buy, with one line on when each wins.

It draws 15 A at 120V (planning allowance), so a 20 A breaker with 12 AWG copper covers the 125 percent rule. On NEC table amps for 2 HP the circuit comes out to a 30 A breaker and 10 AWG copper over a 30 ft run. A licensed electrician confirms the circuit before you wire.
