Choose Grizzly G0771Z if

  • You want every dimension before you buy. The G0771Z listing gives overall size, table size, base footprint and weight, and our layout engine uses them to answer for each of six bays.
  • You want a saw that runs on a 120V circuit. It ships prewired for 120V at 15 A, so a dedicated 20 A circuit runs it, with a 240V option at 7.5 A for later.
  • You buy direct and want a parts line. Grizzly sells the saw, parts and freight from one place.
  • The bay is a two-car garage. In our engine it fits beside a parked sedan at 20 x 20 ft and every larger bay.

Choose SawStop contractor saw if

  • You already want the SawStop name. The title carries the brand and a model number, CNS175-PFA30, so you can look it up and compare owner reviews.
  • The 30 in fence is the feature you want. The title names a 30 in Premium Fence Assembly. Check the listing to see how rip capacity is stated.
  • You prefer Amazon's return path. For a heavy item, read how return freight works before you rely on it.
  • You are comparing safety features. We do not list them for this saw. The listing and the manufacturer's page are where to read them.

What we can compare, and what we cannot

Our sources give the Grizzly saw in full: motor, amps, table, overall size, footprint and weight. For the SawStop they give the title only: a 1.75 HP contractor saw with a 30 in Premium Fence Assembly, model CNS175-PFA30. Motor size and fence are the two things we can set side by side. Everything else, including voltage, weight and footprint, is on the Amazon listing and not in our briefs.

That is a real limit on this page, not a hedge. A garage decision depends on weight and floor area, and we will not guess them. We researched both saws from manufacturer listings and published specifications. We did not test either one, and we make no claim about how they cut. Pull three numbers off the SawStop listing before you go further: overall depth, shipping weight, and the amps on the nameplate. Then run them through the garage shop layout calculator next to the G0771Z.

Where the G0771Z sits in a garage

Our layout engine placed the G0771Z alone in each of six standard bays, then with a sedan parked 12 in from the door and walk-around clearance, then with the clearance removed to test storage.

BayG0771Z
12 x 20 ft one-carEmpty bay only
12 x 22 ft one-carStored with a car, not working
20 x 20 ft two-carFits with a car
22 x 22 ft two-carFits with a car
24 x 24 ft two-carFits with a car
32 x 24 ft three-carFits with a car

At 64 x 40.5 in it takes about 8 percent of a 12 x 20 ft floor and 7 percent of a 12 x 22 ft one. To compare the SawStop, take its listing depth and width and hold them against 64 x 40.5 in. If it is deeper, it will not do better in the one-car bay; if it is shorter, it might. See the G0771Z fit sheet for the full result.

Circuits: 120V or not

The G0771Z is listed at 15 A on 120V. At 125 percent that is 18.8 A, so a dedicated 20 A breaker with 12 AWG copper under NEC Table 310.16, 60 C column. Our engine's NEC table calculation for a 30 ft run says 30 A on 10 AWG, so the electrician sizes from the nameplate, not from either of our numbers. At 240V the listing gives 7.5 A.

The SawStop title does not give a voltage. That is the first thing to check, because it decides whether you need a new circuit or only a dedicated one. If the listing gives amps for 120V and 240V, take 125 percent of the one you will use and ask a licensed electrician to confirm the breaker and wire. Either saw should run alone on its circuit: a saw and a dust collector on one 20 A breaker will trip it. The 240V circuit calculator and the 240V explainer walk through the sizing.

Moving, delivering and dust

The G0771Z ships at 324 lb, crated. Our rule multiplies by 1.3 for the mobile base capacity you need, which gives 421 lb and the WEN 500 lb base, with a modest margin. For the SawStop, take the shipping weight from the listing and multiply by 1.3; if the result goes over 500 lb, the VEVOR 1500 lb base is the next step. Check the base footprint against the saw's footprint, because a wide saw can overhang a universal base. See the mobile base roundup.

Both arrive as heavy freight. Plan the route from the curb to the bay and have a helper, and check who handles a return before you order. For dust, a table saw asks for about 350 CFM at the hood, and a 4 in duct carries 349 CFM at 4,000 fpm. Confirm each saw's dust port on its listing. Wear a respirator and safety glasses when you cut; the GVS P100 and the safety glasses are the catalog picks. The dust collector calculator sizes the collector.

How to decide with what is missing

Compare the two on a worksheet. For each saw write down motor, voltage, amps, depth, width, weight, and whether the fence is the one you want. Grizzly fills the column in for you. For the SawStop, five numbers off the listing close the gap. If the SawStop is a 120V saw with a footprint and weight like the G0771Z, the choice comes down to brand, fence and price. If it needs 240V or weighs well over 324 lb, it behaves more like the cabinet saw in our cabinet against hybrid comparison than like a hybrid in a one-car bay.

In a one-car garage, no contractor or hybrid saw is comfortable beside a parked car, as the jobsite against hybrid page explains. The table saw roundup puts both in their tiers.

Verdict

G0771Z if you want a documented saw you can plan a bay around; SawStop CNS175-PFA30 if the brand and the 30 in fence are what you are buying and the listing numbers fit your floor and your circuit. The Grizzly gives us 64 x 40.5 in, 324 lb and 15 A at 120V. The SawStop gives us a 1.75 HP motor and a 30 in fence in its title and the rest on the listing. Read the listing for voltage, weight and footprint, then decide, and have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SawStop contractor saw a 120V saw?

The title does not say. It gives 1.75 HP and a 30 in fence assembly. Check the listing for voltage and amps, and have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit.

How much does the SawStop CNS175-PFA30 weigh?

Our sources do not give a weight for it. Read the listing. The G0771Z lists 324 lb shipping, a useful number to compare it against.

Will the G0771Z fit in a one-car garage with a car?

Only stored. In our layout engine it fits a 12 x 22 ft bay beside a parked sedan with the working clearance removed, and does not fit a 12 x 20 ft bay with a car.

What breaker does the G0771Z need?

On the 15 A listing at 120V, 125 percent is 18.8 A, so a dedicated 20 A circuit on 12 AWG copper. A licensed electrician should confirm it from the nameplate.

Do both saws have a 30 in rip?

The G0771Z listing gives a 30 in right rip. The SawStop title names a 30 in Premium Fence Assembly, so check the listing for its rip capacity.
